The photo on the right was taken just after a harvest of vegetables to sell at my market garden stand (click on the image to view it full size). I ran an independent market garden as a part-time business for three years, and sold vegetables and cut flowers on a honesty system from a small barn on the property. One of the best times of my life!
The link below opens a survey document that I produced while working for the Intervale Foundation after its inception. The survey provided a justification for the eventual investment that was made to expand a farmer incubator project in Burlington, VT. It became a successful venture for many farmers just starting out, and a foundation for the local food movement in Vermont.
I managed an education and outreach program for the Vermont Agency of Agriculture. The compliance program certified pesticide applicators in the state, and I was responsible for administering and scoring exams, maintaining a record of participant credits toward recertification, collaborating with partners to create in-person training opportunities around the state, and developing training materials for this program and the Worker Protection Program. I was also given enforcement credentials by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a member of the enforcement team.
